A little bit about me and my mental health

I have depression and anxiety that I have been dealing with since I was a young teenager. I did not recognize what exactly it was until I had my son. In my late 20’s, I finally spoke to my doctor about it and was started on mild medications. I can see such an improvement in my life. Medication is not the only the only kind of treatment, however. My treatment includes medication but also spirituality, vibing to music, creating, being around loved ones, and attempting to enjoy the small things in life.

I am also a registered nurse that works in a mental health facility. I can see things about people in public that are similar to my patients who have mental illnesses. I know that there are many people that either haven't opened up about their mental health or just haven't found the right treatment for them. I encourage people to be open and honest, to talk about what is going on in their head. It is such a sign of strength to me for someone who feels like something is off about what is going on in their mind and to seek assistance. That is the greatest thing a person can do for themself. In this current society talking about mental health is shunned in most communities because it has the sigma of being a failure or something bad. It is not that, just like any health problem, it just requires some kind of treatment. 

Please reach out for help or guidance and do not let anyone deter you from that.
